Now, if there’s one thing we know, it’s good coffee. A lot of coffee, silly amounts of coffee, bucketfuls of coffee, ALL THE COFFEE! GOWES Coffee is the newest in the Gu, a sweet little coffee hidey hole located on Jl. Pantai Berawa, making it an ideal pit-stop for getting your fix for a take-away beach picnic. Watching the surf while sipping on an ice float latte? Don’t mind us over here just living our best lives.
Pouring up everything from your classic long blacks to probably the best selection of specialty coffees in the Gu. Don’t know what Melya, Bulletproof, Shakerato or Ristretto are? Head on over to Gowes and find out! Better latte than never, amirite?!
Though the coffee itself will have you livin’ la vida mocha, we really shouldn’t pretend to forget about the food there – and we actually couldn’t even if we tried. We are loving the all-day brekkie menu: particularly the açai bowls, cheese & bacon pancakes (served with maple syrup – YAASSS!!) and the Poffertjes – Dutch mini-pancakes served with butter and icing sugar.
The lunch menu won’t disappoint either; the salmon bagel comes dripping with a creamy béchamel sauce, and the Moroccan couscous with charred chicken is next-level comfort food. For lighter options: the Gowes salad really tickled our fancy, while the tomato sauce served with the Spike Meatballs had us licking the plate clean – true story!
The interior is an oddly satisfying combo of European hipster mixed with tropical monkey murals. The name ‘Gowes’ comes from the Javanese word for riding around on your pushbike, hence the bicycle in the logo and decorating the wall. Open from 7.30am til 5pm, grab yourself a spot inside for some lunch-hour laptop time, or sit outside and watch Berawa life go by.
We could all do with a little more Gowes in our lives – coffee and cake to-go as you cycle into the sunset? What a beautiful life..
