Kayu Bakar Berawa delivers a new style of eating to Canggu: ‘Experiential dining’ – a culinary catchphrase that refers to a restaurant’s focus on going beyond just good food and décor. Delivering that ‘X factor’ that makes a night out far more than just a meal.
The name Kayu Bakar translated from Bahasa Indonesian to English, literally means ‘wood fire,’ and this delicious means of creating flavoursome dishes is seen throughout the menu, and even in some of the interior (that fire-singed custom decor tho!). Two storeys of pure design genius, the regal atmosphere here will make you feel kinda like you’re making a guest appearance at one of the Game of Thrones dinner parties.
Pull up a pew out on the balcony and order yourself a couple of cocktails as the sun goes down for the evening. For the fiery ones, the Rujak Canggu – with tequila, mango puree & homemade spicy mango & basil. Sweethearts will love the Cica Margarita – with tequila, crème de cassis, strawberries, basil & soda. Or the Rosetini – homemade rosella and berry puree, gin, raspberry vodka & roseberry foam – the perfect mix of sweet n sour.
Now you’ve worked up an appetite, lets talk for a minute about this food. Wood smoked, charred – ‘flavoured by nature’ is the philosophy here. Get some mouthwatering meats and veggies caramelised to perfection, all up in your grill. From the cold selection, the Beef Carpaccio is a real winner – especially with a cocktail in hand. For something a little more substantial – the spaghetti ala Aglioli e Olio will hit the spot. Black caviar, escargot, black truffle, chilli, smoke dried tomatoes, herbs, garlic oil. (S)nailed it.
Kayu Bakar also brings with it the first ever chef’s table experience to hit Canggu. It’s seriously Seminyak, but we’re seriously glad this kind of dining experience has been imported into our hood. We’re all out here living our best lives – an indulgent night of cocktails and delicious food in a beautiful setting just makes sense, doesn’t it? See you there!
