Are you a Canggu expat or traveller desperately seeking some familiarity in this ever changing landscape? Sick of farewelling your friend group over and over, constantly having to hit refresh on your whatsapp faves? We feel you. And Gu crew, Koloni Bali have got you. A cosy hangout about to become your new home away from home, Koloni Bali is Canggu’s newest local.
Colony by definition is a place where a group of people with the same occupation or interest live together, and Koloni Bali (as spelt in Bahasa Indonesia) is just that. A meeting place where like-minded foodies can catch up and have a natter over a healthy, hearty feed, to turn unfamiliar faces into new mates, and to discover a menu of foreign flavours recolonised in Bali.
“Californian cuisine, marinated in Bali” is the food philosophy here. Koloni Bali takes Bali’s fresh produce and fuses it with dope Cali flayva. Think popcorn shrimp, fish tacos, blackened salmon, thick-cut chicken sandwich, onion rings, truffle fries – taste explosions with every bite. The dishes at Koloni Bali are served with some mad skill too, you’ll taste caramelised onion like no other, and sample the chefs creativity – taking a simple dish like a humble breakfast waffle, and turning it into a hybrid creation (imagine carrot cake waffles, or falafel waffles – MIND. BLOWN!).
Like any good Canggu eatery, Koloni Bali is a total instagram-affair. Immerse yourself in the jungle (up against their dope mural wall), order a fruit infused carafe or sparkling water to dress the table (not to mention fire up those tastebuds!), and pose with your gigantic salad bowl, using your head to scale (no really, these bowls are crazy-generous!). From smoothie bowl and smashed avo mornings in the air-conditioned dining room, to shrimp pasta and chilled wine nights in the alfresco courtyard, get ready to get settled at Koloni Bali.
